Getting the Best out of Big Data: A Conversation

August 1, 2017

CSDA Co-Director Rhema Vaithianathan will talk about the risks and opportunities of big data as part of a panel conversation at AUT City Campus on Thursday 3 August.

Rhema will be joined by Professor Tahu Kukutai (National Institute of Demographic and Economic Analysis, University of Waikato), David Leach (CEO of Qrious, supported by Spark) and Keith Ng (investigative data journalist) and the panel will be chaired by AUT Adjunct Professor Rod Oram.

“Big Data creates enormous opportunities for better understanding the impacts and effectiveness of economic and public policy, such as social investment.  But our newfound capacity of collecting data and targeting intervention creates risk as well as opportunities. How can we get the best out of Big Data without enabling the worst, whether in government, business or society?”

This event is the third of a series of conversations about the future of New Zealand in a global economy presented by The Policy Observatory at AUT:
